Stock Market Free Fall & Tax Season

What you can do to protect yourself

· AB5,California,Law,Freelancers,Entertainment Indust

Welcome to March! 15 days before corporate taxes are due and a little over a month before personal taxes are due. Are you getting prepared? If not, I have an interview with a CPA today to get you prepared, especially to get yourself familiar with CA Law AB5.

So much happening! Last week, stock markets took a huge dive, having one of its worst weeks since 2008. The S&P 500 index fell 11.5%, mainly because of worries that the coronavirus outbreak could become a worldwide pandemic. I did a Facebook Live last Friday on the subject of worrying about the coronavirus and how it may relate to worrying about our finances. Check it out HERE.

A couple of weeks ago and last week, I published a video interview with an entertainment lawyer about AB5, a new law that passed and went into effect this year. If you're a freelancer, a small business, and especially if you're in the entertainment, music or a creative industry and don't just get paid w-2, then you will want to watch this interview with Entertainment Lawyer Ned Menoyo. (In both interviews my clients got to ask their personal questions.)

Here's the new interview I did with Richard Prinzi, a CPA that specializes in those working in the entertainment industry. He's got a lot of good stuff to say, including how to know if you should incorporate. As mentioned previously, New York is considering similar legislation, and he's working with a group to hopefully stop it. He also answers some tax questions for clients, for this coming year.

If you want to reach out to Richard about your own tax situations, check him out HERE. If you need legal advice about AB5, as it applies to your particular situation, you can go to Ned's website HERE.

Two weeks ago, I had the privilege of speaking on stage at Tuesdays Together's Tide Talk Event at the beautiful Barnsdall Art Park Theater in Los Angeles. I shared the stage with Rising Tide Founder Natalie Franke and Leadership and Sales Expert, the “Profit Accelerator™,” Allyson Bird, who tore down the house! It was such an honor. I have photos and a video to share (I promise!). If you were at the event and wanted to get the mini-course on how to find and release your money blocks OR you would like to work through a personal financial question, let's talk in a free 1-hour session. Both options are on my home page HERE. You can also click on my signature below. I would love to hear from you!

With Gratitude,
