May the Force Be With You

Over the weekend, some of my music bucket list dreams came true!

Saturday, I went to a music festival, where The Cure headlined (and picked all of the bands at the festival, including the Deftones and The Pixies! For those of you who don't know, The Cure is my all-time favorite band. I love all kinds of music, but I've been in love with The Cure since I was about 13, and I'm a little embarrassed to say this, but when Robert Smith first started playing...I cried...

On Sunday, some friends had a a housewarming pool party during the day, and in the evening, my husband's childhood friend invited us to the Hollywood Bowl to hear the Los Angeles Philharmonic perform.

For those of you who don't live here, the Hollywood Bowl is L.A.'s version of Lincoln Center or Carnegie Hall. But...since this is Hollywood, it's done a little differently. First of all, it's the Bowl, as most Angelenos call it, has been around since the 1920's, and Frank Lloyd Wright designed one of the original bandshell.

The GREATS play here, from Jazz Legends Billie Holiday, Louis Armstrong and Ella Fitzgerald to Rock Icons like The Beatles, Rolling Stones, and Pink Floyd and Pop/Rap Performers like Kanye, Lady Gaga and Alica Keys.

Sunday, was no exception. It was a tribute to Hollywood movies with special guest, John Williams, and yes, I got to meet the man who composed the Star Wars Theme, the Imperial Death March, well...pretty much all of the music in the Star Wars franchise... Indiana Jones, Jaws, Superman, E.T., Jurassic Park, Schindler's List...and on and on. He's got 5 Oscars, which he mentioned, adding that it was bad manners to do so.

Growing up, my brother and I LOVED Star Wars. He had all of the action figures, the Millennium Falcon ship and X-Wing Fighter. Before we all met the Maestro, I was talking to our friends about shifting energy. I really believe that this is the BEST way to negotiate anything...whether it's child support you have to pay an ex, a new car, or since it was just Labor Day yesterday, a pay raise or getting a new client.

How do we shift our energy?

Well, remember in Star Wars the FORCE? Remember the scene where Obi-Wan Kenobi waved his hand in front of the Storm Troopers and said, "These are not the droids you are looking for..." And then the Storm Troopers repeated back that these aren't the droids they're looking for and let them pass? That's exactly what shifting your energy is like.

Obi-Wan Kenobi - These are not the droids...

“The Force is an energy field generated by all living things. It surrounds us, penetrates us and binds the galaxy together,” said Obi-Wan Kenobi to young Luke Skywalker.

That energy field Obi-Wan is talking about is what we're going to shift. You can shift your energy to promote love, freedom and accountability to better your life and those around you, or you can shift your energy into the Dark Side by using fear, blame or hatred and make those around you miserable. Both the Light and the Dark can be powerful. We've all had bosses who've used the same tactics as the Dark Side to rule (in a scary way) with an iron fist. Those working for that boss do the work but they do it out of fear of losing their jobs, rather than out of respect for that boss. Ultimately, that doesn't yield the best product.

Instead, let's all start practicing shifting our energy, first, by getting super clear about what you actually want. Picture it in your mind. See it. Give it shape, depth, and vibrancy! Make it real in your mind! (Remember, the mind doesn't know the difference between reality and a well-imagined thought!)

Once you can see and feel it, as if it's already happened, then dig deep and find the purpose to what you truly desire. When the truth of what you desire is rooted in your higher calling (your purpose in life), then it will be much easier to manifest and much easier to convey to the other party.

Finally, when communicating with someone else, make sure you're a vessel for that higher purpose by allowing love to come into the conversation. Send love to the other person and convey that the negotiation is really one of co-creation...so that, in the end, we all win.

May the force be with you.

Does this make sense? If so, please let me know in the comments below.
